Michael was the global chief operating officer and divisional board member of Commerzbank's investment bank between 2005 and 2011. In this role, he developed and implemented a successful new strategy for the entity, which involved a significant restructuring and returned the entity to profitability within less than a year. Michael also successfully led the post-merger integration of Commerzbank's investment bank with that of Dresdner Bank, following the merger of the two banks in 2009.
Between 2014 and 2019, Michael worked as a principal at Tabors Caramanis Rudkevich, an economic consultancy specializing in power and gas. He was responsible for various investment projects involving power generation and transmission assets in the United States and worked on a market reform project for Malaysia. He also testified in legal matters involving electric utilities and independent investors in the power sector in the United States and Canada.
